This clip made me feel uncomfortable… :/ I know that Mako and Bolin come from the streets and taking care of themselves a lot, but the whole thing with Bolin having the valet dry him and Pabu just seemed really disrespectful. And I know Mako and Asami are dating, but I just feel like all the favors that she and her father are doing for the brothers is going to come back and bite them in the ass, and I’m worried. Everything seems to be moving so fast, and granted that is the nature of a children’s television show that doesn’t provide time stamps for the events of an episode, but I can’t help feeling this way. I really hope that nothing terrible happens to the gang in respect to their connections with Asami and her father; Not just because the Fire Ferrets would lose their sponsor, but because they’re such a large part of the group’s livelihood at the moment. Myth: “Poverty doesn’t exist here.”
Thanks to the Recession, this myth has become too obvious, too uncomfortable, to ignore. For the first time, suburbs have a higher percentage of the nation’s poor than cities. Many are newly-impoverished: home-owners who lost their nest-eggs, who are chained to mortgages they can’t afford.
However, those most affected by the Recession are the nearly 10 million people in suburbia who were living below the poverty line before 2000, including many new immigrants who flocked to the suburbs for the availability of low-wage construction/service jobs. With the housing market folding and those jobs dwindling, suburban poverty, in ten years, has increased by 53%.
Frankly, the only place I’ve seen poverty more visible is in Asia, in developing countries. In all advanced places I’ve been, like Singapore and Europe, it’s never quite as bad as I see in America.
I was born in 3, grew up an hour from 4, and currently live in 8. In conclusion: yup.
